Procrastination or There's No Such Thing as Writer's Block

Last year I was talking to a newly published author (let's call them NewAuthor) at a book launch dinner, and discussed with them my theory on the non-existence of writer's block. Later I found out from a friend who had also been talking to NewAuthor that they had also had a conversation about writer's block, except it had been NewAuthor telling my journalist friend (or Journo) that they were suffering badly from this thing I had insisted doesn't exist, and had moved countries in an attempt to unblock. After hearing that from Journo my first reactions were to feel guilty and tactless. I'd like to blame it on the wine with dinner, but the truth is I'm incredibly opinionated, and rarely think at the time about how my opinions will be received by others. That's normally left until something like this happens, and then I feel guilty. I've been thinking about NewAuthor and our conversation that night quite a lot this week, as I struggle with my own writing.

I'm Mel and Kar asked if I'd be interested in doing a guest post on her blog. She's super stressed just now, so I don't mind helping out. Apparently I've to tell you a bit about myself then, "you know, whatever you want to write about is fine". Althought that was after I vetoed the idea of an interview. Some crazy woman wanted to know if I pee with the door open when I'm in the house on my own. Seriously.

Writing about writing

I'm going to write about something that I don't normally discuss on the blog, or with anyone really: my creative writing. I haven't completed a project on my own, written a story from start to finish since I was 12 years old (it was called 'Jenna's Homework', my Mum thought it was quite good). I've started loads and I've abandoned them all so far. I have notebooks filled with ideas which have amounted to no more than that.

The Nex

Tim Pratt has been making my Monday's better since March this year with his serialised novel Broken Mirrors. It's now finished (boo!) and Marla Mason fans are attempting to persuade him to continue self-publishing for book 6 (yay!). While waiting with bated breath on the next Marla installment, I now have his new self-published novel The Nex to save my Monday's once again.

Its me!!!

So I've decided to start a blog. Hi, I've never done this before; I don't really know what to say. I can't help but wonder how many first blog posts start with something like that, people stating that they are giving this a go, but they doubt that anyone will ever read this. I'm trying not to go down that route, but the truth is this is something for me and if no-one ever reads it, I don't really mind. At least not much.
